WHAT IS IT WORTH? What is it Worth? Polemic and unrelenting denunciation of Neo liberal values in contemporary Brazilian society. The film compares social practices during the Slavery and the pseudo benevolence of charitable organizations, and resolutely denounces both. Candinho is a slave hunter and Arminda a fugitive pregnant slave. Once caught by Candinho, Arminda is returned to her master and has a miscarriage. Candinho then receives his compensation and is now able to bring up his newborn son. In contrast the film cuts to contemporary urban Brazil where a marketing consultancy team working for a charity discuss a project for computer donations to a poor neighbourhood. Arminda and Candinho, now live different roles in different times facing similar dilemmas but forever playing out their inevitable roles of victims. The only difference being that before these dilemmas were explicit, and today they are veiled under the cloak of benevolence trying to fill in the absence of the Estate. From this visceral, unrelentingly aggressive Sergio Bianchi's begs the answer: is there any difference between slavery and the continuous exploration of misery? Supported by ROTTERDAM
